How should I adjust the clutch. Before I loosened the ten mm bolt the alloy plug was flush with the casing. I loosened the bolt and turned the alloy plug left and right a few degrees, put it back in the original position but when I tighten the bolt it pushes the plug proud of the surface about a mm. I tried pushing against the plug when tightening but it still pushes out. Is there something else I should be doing or is it ok for the plug to be proud?

The item you are referring to is item 6 in this schematic.

As you turn it you change the clearance on the clutch actuator, item 5, which is attached to the clutch cable. All you are doing is adjusting the slack in the cable. Turn the screw and you can feel how the slack changes at the handlebar lever.

Thank you. I also see there is a forked clamp that locks it in place, part #7. That will be what pushes the adjuster plug outward. Guess I should stop calling it a plug, it is a clutch cable adjuster.

Just a word. From personal experience I know that it is easy to break the clamping piece by overtightening the bolt. Be careful not to tighten it more than necessary to prevent the adjuster from rotating.

Loosen the 6mm bolt just enough so the adjuster can move. If you pull the clutch lever in, with the bolt loose, the lever will easily come back to the handle bar while the adjuster turns a bit to the left. While holding the clutch lever lightly, turn the adjuster to the right until the lever is pulled back out, then back it up just a hair for a small amount of slack(free-play) in the cable.

Same way as always, you loosen bolt, then turn the adjuster.
