c72 front suspension.

Post by cv » Tue Sep 11, 2018 5:50 pm

Hi, Has anyone managed to take the front suspension apart and renew the seals and oil to make it a firmer ride as mine is definitely too soft ( I weigh 182 lbs so I'm not too heavy) also the springs are ok,any info will be appreciated.
Regards, CV.

Hi CV

Not a trivial task. The NOS Dream front shock I have in my hand has the body swaged over the internals at the seal end.

I have taken apart and restored smilarly made CL77 rear dampers by making a fixture and, after removing the spring, cutting off the end in my lathe.

It is then necessary to make a screwed plug or collar to hold the innards in after reassembly. Not for the faint-hearted but an interesting project.

Hi G-man, Thanks for your comprehensive reply, you're right that is a difficult operation and beyond my engineering skills!!! I've contacted several suspension 'specialists' who can't help with the problem, so i'll have a brew and think about my next move!!!!!!!
Thanks again, CV.
