Unstuck engineUnstuck engineI recently purchased a 1967 honda ca77 305 from a guy I graduated with. I am currently trying to restore the bike. He said that when he got the bike from a friend of his he said that the engine was stuck but had gotten it unstuck. I haven't tried to start it due to no gas, broken fuel line, no spark plugs, and no battery. But when you try to kick it over, it sounds as though it has good comprehension. What should I do to get it to where it will start? Besides replacing the parts I have already said. Am I going to have to pull the engine to check the cylinders? What else will I have to do to get it running again? Anyone?

You can go two ways if you just want it as a runner you can put some WD40 down the plug holes to free things up but then change the oil as it will be contaminated or, to have peace of mind how things are looking with the pistons, rings and bores I would break it down as I did and was happy I did as there were two broken rings. Probably no need to take it apart. Just get it running and see how it runs first. If it doesn't smoke and it runs okay, just ride and enjoy. I found mine in a junkyard, got it running, but did have to take the cylinder off to replace stuck rings. However, if it hadn't been smoking on one cyl I never would've pulled it apart.
Clean carb, check timing, check for spark, check for fuel flow to carb and fire it up. If the clutch plates are stuck, ride a few blocks with the clutch lever pulled in and press on the rear brake from time to time, that should free it up. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Do what you've always done and you'll get what you've always had.
