Hi my name's jeff and I'm new to the site.
I recently bought a 1966 C77/C78 - all original (only had one registered owner before me :) ) Honda dream with 12K miles on it. I even have the signed registration from original owner issued in 66.... so cool.
The bike was well maintained and other than some rust spots my plan is ELBOW grease, LOVE & heated storage beside my 63 C95 I just finished rebuilding.
("no body likes to be alone"...I told my wife... she just rolled her eys. lol)
I have a Question I can't find the answer to...
I pulled the oil filter out and cleaned it. It was about half full. When I went to put it back in I noticed right away that the drive sprocket on the crank shaft was able to turn rather freely. The nut on the end of the crank is still "set" with the locking washer tabs. Is this nut set correctly? .... or should it have been tightened down to a specific torque that would have locked this drive sprocket onto the crank shaft?
Any help would be much appreciated.
thanks
Jeff
66 C77 oil filter drive sprocket question
Re: 66 C77 oil filter drive sprocket questionBetween the locking washer and sprocket is a cone shaped washer.
You need to check to see if it is installed with the cone area in contact with the sprocket not toward the lock washer. I use a chisel with the sharp end ground to a 30 degree angle and drive the crank nut as tight as practicable. That's what I do. ..................lm
