Honda Dream

Post by JSchuster15 » Thu Jun 23, 2011 6:45 pm

Hi I recieved a Honda Dream 305 from my uncle as a graduation gift. It is in very good condition and the motor had compression. With minor effort and replacing the gaskets in the petcock assembly, I got it running and have rode it around a lot. It is so fun to ride! I need some help though. The kickstand doesn't seem to do anything and I'm looking for an air filter. I also want original mufflers and second gear doesn't seem to work. It is very cranky and doesn't shift into it, but I can bypass it. I'll post pictures and tell me what you think! Also, I can't find the manufacture stamp on the neck of the frame. Does anyone know where it is? If it would help to id the year, the engine stamp says ca77 and the frame stamp ca78. Thanks for looking!

Great gift! Sounds like you found the frame stamp if you found the CA78 with the VIN.Looks like a 64' model year if that is what your looking for.Looks like the tank badge is on backwards. That one is for the left side. What do you mean the stand does not do anything?Show a pict of it.Joe

Everybody needs an uncle like that!

There is no number on the frame neck. Just the number you apparently found on the left side starting with CA78.
The kick stand doesn't appear to lift the rear wheel off the ground. Obviously keeps the bike upright, though. I don't have an explanation on that one.
Tough luck on the 2nd gear. I would wait to hear from others with more expertise, but it sounds like something that will require splitting the cases in order to fix it.
Original mufflers are pretty pricey, but they do come up on Ebay. There are reproductions available if you have lots of cash. I think they are about $900.
Fixing the petcock is no easy task ( if it doesn't leak).
I would strongly urge that you purchase Bill Silver's restoration CD if you plan on keeping the bike or even just repairing it. It is packed with most of the info you will need. You can also get a lot of help from people on this website, especially if you work to try to figure out the answer by yourself first.

Hi JS,

Looks great.

Go ahead and put your city and state in your profile.

Thanks for the replies. I meant the kick start not the kickstand sorry. It just doesn't do anything. The electric start does work though. Needless to say, I was pretty happy with my uncle! Otherwise it is in vey good shape and just needs a little tlc to make her shine. Do you know where I can get a vintage Honda stamp for the right seed of the gas tank, if that is for the right side?
Thanks, Jason

Also, I haven't seen many dreams with the short mufflers on them. Are they rare or how old would they be? Original to the bike?

The mufflers aren't original. If you like them, cool. If not, they make ones that look closer to originals for not bad money. Nice originals will set you back a bit. I have no idea the origins of the mufflers on there.

Repo tank badges can be bought. Once again, nice originals are a few bucks. The badge on your bike is actually on the wrong side.
