I have a collection of speedos which I am rebuilding and I have a question regarding when Honda introduced the red warning light into the speedo face. I have faces with / without the warning light and also the name plates with Honda or Nippon Seiko.
To begin with I thought that the ones marked Honda were the ones without the red lamp, but I have, what appears to be, an untouched speedo with the Honda name and the red light, so now I'm confused.
My CL72 is a 1963 model with Aluminum fenders and I was planning on building it with a 'no warning light' speedo. I tried looking through the part numbers but there doesn't seem to be any difference in my book.
Any thoughts? I know I'm nit-picking but I have all the parts to make it right so I thought that I'd try.
My frame number is CL72 311004
Thanks
G

Re: CL72 Speedometer - red light or no red light?
Not a lot of positive info as to when HONDA changed the speedo to the NS from the HONDA with no High Beam Indicator.
As ya have 11004 I suspect it came with the NS and HBI but can't prove any thing with actual pics or data.
I know that the 1962 and early 1963 bikes came with POLISHED fenders and haven't been able to find any data/proof at what numbers HONDA started painting them silver. .....................lm

Thanks for your help. I have enough good parts from dismantled speedos to build up either type. I'll post photos later but have seen (unmolested speedos) in three types.
Honda logo - no HBI
Honda Logo - HBI
NS logo - HBI
Interestingly I took one speedo apart recently and it said Honda at the bottom of the face and the upper ring was marked NS.
As to the fenders, do you mean that Honda painted the aluminum fenders silver? I have a pair of very nice aluminum fenders which will polish up well. There were not many clues on this bike when I got it as it had been robbed of the 'expensive' parts by a PO. I'm hoping to create a nice original bike in red.
Have a great weekend.
