The gearchange splines on my SuperHawk just sheared off! Broke right at the groove for the clamp bolt.
Looking for parts. Assuming I find them is this a major gearbox stripdown?
Thanks for any advice.

Found one for $88 on eBay.
Temporary repair looks good; drilled and tapped the shaft, added a 1/4 x 20 bolt to hold everything together - seems solid.
I wonder if when I do the job properly it might fix the problem of missing shifts from 3nd > 3rd gear?

It's possible to work on the gearbox without having to dismantle the engine top.
It saves a lot of disassembly and time.

Many thanks, after some time spent on YouTube I think I can replace the Spindle Shift arm by just removing the left side cover (and possibly the clutch) - we shall see...

If it's just a question of replace the Spindle Shift arm, you can just removing the left side cover and the clutch etc....

Thank you!
Yes I figured this out, pretty straightforward. However I have run into a problem pulling the clutch basket off the shaft. It should just slide off, I already removed the snap ring, and the clutch plates, undid the main drive gear so it should now be simply a matter of pulling the clutch basket and the drive chain and the drive sprocket off...
It won't shift. My guess is that the clutch basket has worn a groove in the shaft. tried gentle heat and careful use of levers.
I am about to get hold of a 6" puller. Fingers crossed...

Re: Gearchange splines 1964 Super Hawk
OK so long story short, after a struggle with a home made puller and a 6" one purchased, lots of swearing and gentle tapping I managed to pull the clutch basket off the shaft. The inboard end of the splines was damaged, pulling the basket off has left a groove in the release bearing.
This was such an ordeal that I will start another thread see "Removing stuck clutch basket" in case others have the same problem.
I believe some judicial oil stone work on the splines and emery on the bearing should rectify the situation.
I would be interested to hear how anyone thinks the spline could have been damaged.
