disassembling cb77 steering stem

Post by Hank Dymale » Thu Nov 14, 2019 4:08 pm

Is it possible to remove the center tube from the lower cast yoke on a CB77 steering stem? The fine threads on the center tube were ruined during disassemble. I have a spare steering stem (33mm), but I have to use my original lower yoke with the 34.5mm I.D. holes to match front forks. I know this is a little long winded question, but any advice would be appreciated.

Hank

Those parts were made as two separate pieces so, technicaly, it is possible to take them apart but you would need a big press, some special fixtures and, possibly, heat.

What damage do you have on the original stem? You may be able to use a thread file on the damaged part.

Almost anything can be repaired if you are patient........

I built my own tooling to dismantle and reassemble Honda crankshafts.
