so, my great uncle gave my dad a superhawk when he was a kid. dad road it around for a few years, always took care of it, and parked it in my grandfathers climate controlled basement. dad moved out in 1972, leaving the bike under the steps. pap used to have a reloading bench right next to the bike, and made a habit of giving it a kick somewhat regularly when he finished loading a box of shells.
my grandfather passed, and concerned that it would end up sold off, my cousin picked it up, and hid it in his garage. Being the mechanic, and tinkerer that he is, he decided to give it a tune up, ya know... just the basics, like oil/spark/gas. put a battery in, and 5 kicks later and it was puttering away after nearly 40 years of storage!
the front fender was chopped at some point, and the seat has been swapped, but otherwise, to the best of our knowledge, all original. he drove it around a few times, and everything worked. tires appear to be intact, but will be replaced because 40 year old rubber can't be as good as it looks.
it does need a new clutch handle, and probably could use new cables as well.
I realize odometers can be manipulated, but this bike was parked by my father when he was a teenager, and from my understanding has been in the family since new, so it's entirely probable that the less than 9000 miles showing, is completely accurate.
I do have a question though. the title shows this bike as a cb77 originally titled in 68, which means it must have sat for a few years before being bought, but dad can't seem to remember what year it actually was. So, can anyone tell me what year this vin should belong to?
vin: 1020842
not really sure what the plan is. most likely a pit bike when I come visit him at the drag strip, and an occasional weekend cruiser w/ my neighbor. neither of us really need a restoration/custom project, but fortunately this doesn't really need any serious work.
I'll have to get pictures uploaded, and I apologize, because the best I can get are just cell phone pics. should be able to get the bike sometime this month, or next, for more pictures and what not.
thanks for reading!
