Hello forum,
Im new to the scene and recently purchased what I believe is a 67 superhawk, however the title says 68 dream.
Heres the numbers
Frame: CB77-1037798
Engine: CB77E-1037856
Any help with its true identity would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Jon

Definitely a Superhawk. Honda ran the same number sequence through the last three or so years of production so it's difficult to give a date. There should be a little white tag on the wiring harness under the tank which usually has a date on it. Also e3Steve on this forum has been collecting numbers from the later bikes so may be able to help you date it a little closer.

Hi Jon. Same thing happened to me. The bike probable sat in the dealership for a few years ... or a warehouse etc. Back then, they often put the year of first sale as the year of manufacture on the titles.
I have the original bill of sale saying the bike is a 69, when in fact it's a 66.
I do so look forward to my upcoming discussions with California DMV soon.
To compound the issue, the wire harness was not necessarily put on during that year of manufacture. It could be +/- one year ... but it's often a good bet it's the correct year.
Not to worry.

If the VIN number on the title matches the VIN on the bike, I'm happy. Sometime when you're at the DMV you could ask them about correcting it. They might be cool with it, but if they don't want to I wouldn't fret too much. When I tried to get my 66 CL77 title switched to my name the DMV here in Nebraska handed me a title that said it was a CL125. I caught it when she handed it to me and asked about it and she said that's what the computer says it is. I said it's really a 305cc and the model was CL77. The gal behind the counter said no big deal just have to enter it manually then and corrected it for me.
My MV Agusta on the other hand has a title that says it's a Make: "Custom" and Model: "Augusta F4". (notice the mispelling of Agusta) The computer system aparently doesn't know what an MV Agusta is and the guy behind the counter didn't seem real keen on hand entering the information correctly so I didn't press it.
And my little brother's CB77 title says it's a 1969. When it's really a 66. It's probably a case of what was mentioned earlier where the bike sat around for a few years before being titled.
