Fork has springs ... or not?

Post by Dana01 » Mon Nov 22, 2010 2:40 pm

Hi all,

1966 CB-77

I'm rebuilding the front forks. On disassembly I was surprised to not see any fork springs. Having owned a dozen or so Honda's over my lifetime, I expected to see one.

I checked my Clymer (repro.) manual (p. 121) and without an exploded diagram, it doesn't look like there is spring in the parts list.

CMSNL shows a fork present: p/n 51401268000:

Did I buy a bike missing forks springs? Am I going nuts (ok, don't answer that one).

Thx in advance!

Dana

Dan, if it has the aluminum sliders, the fork springs are external. If it has the steel sliders, the fork springs load from the bottom of the fork tube, and won't be seen until the slider is removed.

Thanks Davo. They are indeed external. They were buried in a box of stuff that came with the bike.

I'm leaving this post up in case someone has a similar question.

Ride with passion!

I was wondering the same thing the other day. I had two sets of forks from parts bikes and one had springs and the other didn't. I though I had lost the set. Turns out they're the steel forks.
