Honda CB 305 - what year is this?

Post by lastman » Sun May 02, 2010 5:53 pm

Hello,
Just picking up a "barn find" Honda 305, and would like to know the year of manufacture so it can be titled correctly. Frame number is CB77 1032915. An online search did not bring up a list of frame numbers and years, so hoping someone here can help. Bike sat for 10 years, but motor kicks over. Besides cleaning out carbs, and gas tank along with new tyres and an oil change, any tips on items to look out for before trying to start it?
Thanks

Welcome,

65-67 had the same numbering system, so there is no definitive break. The numbing started with 100000. From a article I found from Bill Silver, he says " Total production for this period ('65-'67) was 56,432 (frames), so you can roughly divide that figure by three, yielding about 18-19,000 per year. " It looks like a 66. One more thing, the aluminum (Type 2) front forks were on the 66 year bikes.

I think your on track. Look at the FAQs for Ed's instructions for setting the points and carbs. Take apart the 90 degree (Banjo) joints where the fuel line connects to the carbs. You will find these have a small screen in them. These screens may be clogged up. I cut these out and put in-line filters on the fuel line.

I suggest doing some browsing in these forums, there are loads of good information here. Good luck, and post up some pictures!

I think I have it narrowed down to either a 66 or 67 Superhawk. Post the engine serial number and a picture or two and someone will probably give you a more definitive answer. Regards, Jeff.
Dang, beat by mere minutes.

Take a look at the wiring harness underneath the tank. It often has a white label with the manufacturing date (of the harness) on it.
