Help a newbie ID this home brewed cafe racer

[img]Hello everyone, after tirelessly searching on google way to late last night I have come to the conclusion that I have a later model CB77. With some seriously modified seat tail section thing. I decided to join this forum to share my rebuild of this beast and gain knowledge from the oldtimers, and also maybe swap some parts here and there with members.

Here is the story: I am a graphic designer and I have a friend who works at a bike salvage. They have typical newer japanese bikes but this was in the upstairs storage area. Being a hoarder of things well past my age I decided I had to have it. The next sign job that I did for the bike salvage I inquired about a trade and wound up with this bike and another CL75 back at my shop in exchange for some banners. In an attempt to get my paperwork so it can one day be legal, I need to know what year this bike is.

If anyone wants to chime in on what year this is so I can work on the title documents I would appreciate the knowledge. Thanks Scott

I'm gonna go with that year then. Thanks for the reply. It is officially a 1966 CB77 on my title paperwork. I will keep everyone posted with pics and comments as I tear into it to attempt to get it to fire up. If anyone has a normal seat, original or repro, or not even perfect that would be great. Scott: that looks like a really neat project bike ! Go for it ! You'll get a lot of good info and help on this forum. Just curios, are you going to keep it sort of like it is ? ie cafe racer style ? or are you going to go back to original style bike ?

I was thinking I would enjoy it more as an original style bike. I by no means am going to restore the bike back to showroom condition, that is just not my thing. I am first going to try to get it to fire, and then rideable, then I will decide what the look should be. I'm thinking stock looking rider, probably a bit "worn" looking, but mechanically nice. I have seen some cool looking racey bikes, but to me this one looked kinda hokey, and the work was not very high quality.
