SLS vs DLS?

Post by eyhonda » Fri Oct 30, 2009 6:22 am

I just bought a 63 cb77 (cb77314155). I don't have it yet so I'm not looking at it now. When did the change from the sls front brake to the dls front brake happen? I can't recall when I looked at it.

I thought that it was just CLs that changed, but I could be hopelessly wrong. Greater minds will come along shortly!

Ey, according to "The" book(Bill Silvers') the change was at CB77-10281 for the front, the rear was always DLS.........................................D

That's interesting. Never seen a CB77 or 72 with an SLS brake. You learn something every day. Was it the same size, or smaller, like the CLs?

Thanks for the tip. Then that means it changed early-mid year of 1961. On page 56 of Classic Honda Motorcycles by Bill Silver, there is a 61 with the SLS.

I'd have to dig out my paper work to see my serial number, but even my early 61 cb72 has a dls. It's early enough to have the black cables, short seat, and the aluminum shock covers and front fender, but not early enough for the sls. It must have only come on the very earliest models...
