I know it’s been awhile… but any resolution to the hot idle?
Was it the carb nuts, the timing?

Im working on a bike with the same exact issue. Unfortunately, it’s 600mi away at another family member’s home. Just trying to get all the info i can before i return.. thx!

UPDATE (Feb ‘25):
Turns out it was the LACK of springs on my idle screws! D’oh!
I believe what was happening is that as the bike ran and heated up, the metal expanded, and the vacuum would slowly work the idle screws inward, causing the idle to jump up….

Maybe that wasnt the cause, but i know this… when i rode the bike with the idle screws removed, no erratic idle. Installed the spring screws and now, i can finally tune properly! Hopefully my dumb mistake helps someone else out. Happy wrenching.

Before you even think about changing it I would verify with a strobe light that it is definitely faulty, I suggested it only as a 'possibility'.
I agree. I have never been able to do a decent static timing as shown by using a timing light later. Timing lights aren't very expensive, about $50.00 for a serviceable one. Here's a link to one I bought.
