the balls are harder than the races. the races are what wear out. it will be very obvious when you take it apart. nick at ohio cycle may have new oem races.

Do the tapered steering kits replace the bearing races?
Can someone confirm which one of the spacers they used?
See the picture below for a comparison of the stacks. The stock stack (on left) looks a little taller than the allballs stack (with the thicker spacer), but I'm sure that the rubber seal would have been more compressed when actually assembled.

You're correct.
I managed to temporarily fix this on one of my old Brit bikes by just knocking out the races and putting them back in a slightly different position.
Those were the days. My 'fix' is still in operation 20 years on........ :-)
