Newbie w/ a New Bike!!Here's a couple pics of the VIN numbers, but according to the FAQs, the instrument cluster doesn't have a high beam indicator like a '62...???
I'm on a couple other forums, ( I also have a '61 Ranchero), so I like to think I have a little forum etiquette. Also found a place to remake my license plate CA black and yellow http://www.licenseplates.tv/1963-califo ... -6672.html e-hem... I mean to make me a novelty plate!! I'm purposely holding off on getting insurance so I can't ride until I return from my trip, otherwise I'd be spend too much time zipping around instead of planning for our trip!! So I'm back from vacation and decide to pull off the tank and the wiring tag says "1962", Registered as a '62, Speedo is a '62, wire tag says '62, but VINs say it's a '63. ??? Could I have a late "62 or very early '63 production model? Hmmmm????
Not that it really matters all-that-much... it's the ride that counts!!!
That's what I was thinking. I don't think they ever painted on numbers like that. Looks like someone ground down the frame and painted them on as I don't see any impressions. Of course it is hard to tell in the pic but it looks like there might be some grinding marks on the flat area. Possibly a stolen bike from long ago? The VINs are definitely stamped not painted. The paint job looks original, or if not, they did a complete disassemble /stripped down paint job. I had the seat and tank off and there's no sign of any other original color under any scratches or wear marks. I thought I read somewhere that the CB77 came in white???
Here's one I just thought... When I went to register it, I couldn't use the old '60's black and yellow plate because the lady at the DMV said it was a government issued plate. Too many number or something. ( I just thought maybe the guy I bought it from just threw on an old plate he had laying around since he got it as a salvage.) It also has a "California Highway Patrol" Inspection Sticker on the front forks. Could it be an old cop bike?????
