CP77 Production Date?

Trevor,
I don't know if the CB's and CP's had a different sequence of numbers or not. I have a CP77 that I bought in '63 in Japan and than brought to the states in '64. I still have it and the numbers are CP77-63-310262 and CP77E 310204. Don't know if this helps or not. CliffC

CP77's are very odd. Mine is cp77-1900818, which shows up in some list as being one of the CYP types with all the police parts. Most of my Japanese hondas have the numbers like C72-64-XXXX with the year in the middle. Wierd how they changed it up like that! I just bought a CS72 in Japan, can't wait to see what the number style is on that odd one!

According to most documented speculation that I've read, most CPs were domestic (Jap), with some destined for Canada and northern Europe (Germany, Holland, Norway, Sweden). Many had turn signals, but Germany had specific legal requirements regarding the distance between left & right lamps. Whether or not Honda capitulated and redesigned the mounting method, or just merely omitted the lamps, is yet to be discovered.

The rear mounts were tabs welded onto the frame, aft of the upper shock absorber pegs. Canadian models had the little taillight, á la '61 CB, until around '66, I've read. I, along with many others here, I'm sure, would love to know more about this relatively elusive variant.

I have a WORLD parts book for the CB/CP/CYP77 and the CB72 HONDAS which shows several/many different parts designs used in different market areas. Dated Feb. 28,1969. ................lm

See if this works. It's in pretty good shape, just needs a little here and there. As far as I know, the CP's were built in three main versions, and somewhere I have a document that actually shows some of the odd variations within each of those, right down to red blue or white lights on the full police model it even shows "destined for" to the exact serial number, which I can say is wrong because mine is one of seven listed as South America and it went to Vancouver BC.
