Bottom end is together, now it's back apart. The trans I put in was pristine, everything looked great. The only thing I forgot to check were the clutch and sprocket splines. This is a late shallow spline trans and mine was the early deep spline. All swapped out again and going back together for the second time..........................

I've corrected the transmission problems and dropped the engine in the frame 2 weeks ago. Today I put the carbs and point plate on, filled the float bowls and lit it off on the second kick. Some smoke, no leaks but It was only running for maybe a couple minutes. Shifts through all the gears. Sounds much better now! Now I just have to finish the installation and take it for ride.

Seems like you're getting there. Good luck on the road test!

Thanks! After last years CL72 project that Murphy's law invaded it's nice to have one go fairly smooth for sure.

I put the tank on today, fueled and lit it off again running for several minutes now, smoking ceased and it idled very nicely. Valves were adjusted on the bench but the timing needs to be done. The topend is surprising quiet and so far no leaks.

Come grab my timing gun! Its a crap load easier than using a little timing bulb. And much more exact.

Thanks Hill, I have one here, just need to do it! Agreed you can get the two cylinders firing exactly at the "F" marks with the timing light. There are lots of loose ends to tie up on this bike and this is just one of them.
