Finally got one...

Post by R100 » Sun Jul 06, 2014 11:46 am

I joined months ago, but only obtained a CB77 recently.
It's a complete mess, some things missing, some things badly cobbled together, etc. Paid wayyyyyyyyyy tooo much, but now it's mine.

I think I have figured out the JIS/metric bolts somewhat. The 5mm are 0.9 pitch, but the 6mm are normal 1.0 pitch (so far).

My first dilemma is which way to go. Return to stock "as delivered", or personalize it.
I realize most people like to restore these bikes, so some questions will fall on deaf ears if I choose to personalize it.

Well, where to start?
Most bikes that have been around for some time have a tried and true path to increasing power a little by opening up the breathing - air intake, exhaust, and some re-jetting. Such is the case with my HawkGT, but I don't know if there is much out there for CB77's.
Can anyone provide knowledge/experience on that?

Everything else I will get to a step at a time (charging, ignition, etc.).

Very happy to have found this place.
Hope not too many of my questions are dumb newbie stuff, and I swear I will always doo a search first.

Cheers, Doug.

Hi, Doug!

I'm not one who knows the CB77 well, even though I just (mostly) finished a two year restoration on my Superhawk. There are many other fine folks on this forum who have spent literally a life time with these bikes and know the tricks and nuances of them well. I won't name names, for fear of leaving someone out, but let me tell you, everyone is happy to offer advice!

I will not comment or offer an opinion on what direction you "should" take with your CB77. After all, it is yours! I've seen the gamut, and they're all great. If it makes you happy, then it's right.

I know we exchanged a post about the NT650, and it is nice to meet someone else who has one! I'm a brand new owner of a Hawk, I've had it less than a week. However, I appreciate the lineage and the homage it pays the the Superhawk, and I think you'll appreciate that, too, once your CB77 becomes a rider.

Welcome!
