New UK Member with CB72 race bike saying hello

Post by Fozzie_73 » Mon Apr 22, 2013 9:35 am

Hello all,

I've been using the forum since I acquired the bike back in Feb so thought I should log in and say thanks, hello, and introduce myself.

My bike's been stood for a good few years prior to me picking it up and has recently been gone through and set up - however - I'm clearly still on a big learning curve.

My first sprint meeting had to be abandoned as it wouldn't start! (despite running lovely a few days prior and being rolling roaded) so I've still not ridden it!!

I'm guessing this may have been due to a combination of cold/damp UK weather (having read many cases that they're a bit tricky in the cold) on the day, perhaps the battery having dropped some power, and most likely lack of experience on my part with the fuelling setup (how much choke to use etc.) I did get it to go roughly using starter rollers but it kept dying and then refused to try at all... It did make me feel a little better that a lot of other racers offered help but none of them could get it going either!

Anyhow, I'm persevering despite initial disappointment and will continue to learn from the forum and hopefully contribute as I progress! First step is I think to fit a kickstart gear so I can get it started more easily!

I'll post a picture once I figure how - I don't know too much of the bikes history but has been raced previously, has cb750 carbs, meggas (now silenced - (boo!) for UK circuits) and a healthy 24hp.

Are there many others out there in the UK?

Thanks again for input thus far - this has been by far my best source of knowledge to date.

John

Hi John

Welcome to the forum! Sounds like you are having fun with the bike. I am up in Derby, slowly working through a number of restorations of these bikes. I am planning to build a track day / race bike over the next year or two and have collected quite a lot of parts - just haven't had much time to assemble them in to anything yet.... :-)

Dont forget the pics!

Take care

Hi G
Many thanks for the welcome - I'm originally from Notts and have family in Derbyshire so spend a fair bit of time on your neck of the woods. If you don't mind I'll probably hAve a few daft questions as I get to know the bike.
I've already written a long shopping list for the Stafford show this WE!

John

On a trip to the US currently and don't get back until Saturday so I'll try and get there on Sunday. I do have one or two Honda items to bring back from "the Colonies"...... :-)

Feel free to PM me if you want a chat about anything...

Interesting, I'm approx 10 miles south of you G-Man, so not far from Warwickshire also. I too travel to the US, to visit my daughter. I have some large parts to bring back but struggle with the current single suitcase rule, any contacts for shipping?

Malcolm

I either pay the $100 for a 2nd case or use UPS / fedex. I have also used sea freight but that is complicated. I have seen a couple of bike companies offering to do shipping recently.
