CB72 Dream ?

Post by DAX6 » Fri Mar 30, 2012 10:19 am

Why is the CB72 SS Hawk also called "Dream " ?
Has it something to do with the country they were sold ?
It 's same with the CS90(S90) which sometimes is called "Benly"
Can any one tell me ?
Re. Honda motorcycle identification guide ISBN 0-9642491-1-1 is very clear in it.

So why ?

Hi Herman

The Hawk name in the UK was owned by Raleigh Cycles I think, so that may have had something to do with it. Trademark ownership varies around the world.

Triumph motorcycles had problems when John Bloor re-started production as the Triumph brand is used by a lingerie company in the UK and Thunderbird was used in the US by Ford, I think.

That is just a name HONDA used for the 250.
Why did HONDA call the CR125M "ELSINORE".
I can imagine HAWK was a reference to a "Beautiful Fast Bird" there in JAPAN.
Bike is a fast 250 for it's time then the 305 "SUPER HAWK" being faster.
The CR125 and 250 was "as I'm told" reference to the "ELSINORE GRAND PRIX" at LAKE ELSINORE CALIF. ( first 2 stroke competition bikes)
BENLY was a description of CONVENIENCE bike "so I'm told".
Read a book named "THE JAPANESE CYCLE WARS" and ya will learn a lot about the Japanese motorcycles from the early days before and after WW2. .............lm
