The XS is a bulletproof engine. I bought one new in '73, a few years later bought a used '72 and now have 1-1/2 '78 models in the basement as a street tracker project that is currently on hold while I play with more fun things like my 305.

The Yam will vibrate quite a bit and the early frames were a little on the rubbery side, although I never had one go into a wobble at speed. Took a trip on my '73 that first year I got it and it would cruise at 90 mph all day. But the vibes were pretty bad at those speeds.

Lots of parts available both new, used and repro. Mike's XS is a good source. There is also a XS650 list with some knowledgeable guys on it.

I know I'm off topic here, but you had good intentions to get a 305 so no foul in giving you a little info and jump start on your new ride.

Good luck and hope to see you back with a 305 one of these days,

regards,
Rob
