Side cover strengthening?

Post by 56_oval » Tue Nov 23, 2010 3:53 pm

I was curious if anyone ever tried reinforcing the right side kicker cover? Like welding in a brace for added support to keep it from breaking.
Since these covers are getting harder and harder to find, it would seem feasible to try and keep those that aren't broke intact.

I halfway remember someone talking about this. Can't remember if they were offering services or what. I agree though, someone should get with a welder and run a group buy now during the winter time for reinforced covers.

My cover has had a nice bronze bushing added. I think that with proper lube that breakage would be very hard to do. I think the combination of lack of lube to the pivot point and or a misassembled kick starter assembly is where the troubles come in to play. Not to mention trying to unstick a motor with it. Somethings gotta give.
