Bar end mirrors?

Post by Spargett » Mon Nov 10, 2008 10:11 pm

Has anyone put bar end mirrors on any of their bikes? Any tips or products you'd recommend? Thanks!

Here's a few I was looking at: Oberon Mirror | Emgo Mirror | Universal Bar end mirror

I have a 1960's Stadium bar end mirror (left only) on my bike, and it works pretty well. I'm not sure about mounting one on the right in terms of it affecting the throttle action. As far as which one to get, the EMGO ones are okay, I suppose, but I'm sure it's the old 'you get what you pay for' in terms of quality. I know that HALCYON makes some really nice ones (I'm partial to that sweet round one they have), and Classic Parts Ltd. out the UK carries them www.classicpartsltd.com/classicmotorcyclemirrors.htm , but I'm sure there's a U.S. distributor as well.

I don't have any recommendations as such -- the only problem I found with the EMGO when I had one is that the internal screw on the back of the mirror would come loose, and the mirror would then easily move about. You had to take it apart to tighten it, which was a hassle. I suppose if I did have a recommendation would be to see if you can possibly find one that has a wider view, but I don't know how difficult that would be to judge by simply looking at photos on the Internet.

Vince, those stadium mirrors have a pretty cool shape to them. Do you have any photos of them on your bike? Thanks for the recommendation.

This is the only shot I have at the moment, and it's from a previous incarnation of the bike. If I have a chance I'll take a closeup photo of it.

Scott, I once had a pair of those Stadium mirrors on an old BSA A7SS; they work fine on the r/h/s. You just have to relieve the end of the grip to just over ⅞" and move the throttle ass'y onto the bar by a few millimetres.

I found an ad in Classic Bike, showing both circular and trapezoidal bar-end mirors in stainless steel. http://www.classicpartsltd.com/classicm ... irrors.htm

They're not handed.
