Bill Silver Tune-up Almost

Post by uadmlj1 » Fri Sep 30, 2011 6:55 pm

I was using Bill's tune-up instructions for my '66 CL77. Got almost to the end. However, when doing the left points I could not get a light, anywhere during the rotation, either at the points or coil. I had put in new points and condenser. I swaped out the left coil with no effect. Odd observation: I could get small sparks at the coil on the yellow wire side when moving the connector, but not enough to light the light. Any recommendations would be much appreciated.

Look closely at the connection where the wire connects to the points. It is very easy to install that tiny clip so that it grounds out and can foul things up for sure. I don't use Bill's guide but rather Ed's recipe found in the search section under FAQ how to tune these bikes. Follow it to the letter and it will not let you down. Rusty

Rusty, you got me in the right direction. The new points sprung apart when I was trying to hook up the lead. One of the plastic insulators had want missing upon reasembly.
