Out for a ride yesterday and had to push it back.
I finally got the plates for CA78 305 and went for about a 5 mile ride. Bike started fine (which is normal), and drove fine up to the point where I was about 200 yards from home and it stalled. Pushed it over to the side and kicked it about 10 times with no pops or any indication it's going to start.
Checked spark. OK (but not fat) on the left side AND none or very intermittent and light on the right side. Battery is about 3 months old and it was on the 3amp charger all night. All lights etc., are working. I had replaced the condenser about 3 months ago as well only for preventative measures.
What I did this morning:
1. Clipped off about .5" of spark plug wire on the cap side and the coil side on both plug wires and retried - no difference.
2. Removed the points cover today and ran some 500 grit sand paper through the point gap and retried - no difference.
3. Swapped the spark plug wires at the coil and got spark now on the right side but not the left.
Suggestions?
Steve

No issues on the fuel, just a lack of spark on one side of the coil and a weak spark on the other side. I've swapped out the wires and the problem follows the bad side of the coil. I've gotta believe a bad coil unless I've got a bad ground somewhere, but I'm leaning on the coil at this point. Points have been cleaned and 500 grit run through them. I'm gonna back track everything after the Bills bean the Patriots this afternoon!

I've gone through it all a 2nd time.
Weak spark on left, none on right. I have the coil with the push in wire, so I swapped them from Left to Right and the issue followed with Weak on the right and none on the left.
I grabbed another coil from a single cylinder dirtbike and wired it up. Fat and juicy on the Right, and switched wire with a fat and juicy on the left.
Gotta be the coil as I see it so I'm gonna give that JC Whitney chrome one:P/n: 48-98618 a shot. Gonna be $46.00 shipped and the size seems very close at 2" dia and 5" total length. It should fit the existing hold-down.
I'll report back after installed but has anyone else given that unit a try?
