Spark plug cap rebuildability

Post by Eljeef » Sun Aug 02, 2009 2:16 pm

Hi. Has anyone tried to rebuild the original grey metal spark plug caps on the early Dreams? Can someone tell me what ohm diode is in it? I am not sure how to get the cap apart without ruining it but I would rather have the original caps than the current black replacements. Regards, Jeff.

Tis been a while but I think a flat/wide blade screwdriver can/will remove the part which contacts the top of the plug.
I've found a couple (not many) which were loose and when I turned them in the cap worked again. ..........lm

Like Ed said, a good size flat blade screwdriver should remove the end that goes to plug. I then bead blast inside both ends, clean with brake parts cleaner, and use dilectric grease on threads when re-assembling.

Thanks LM, thanks Dave. I checked that screw out, took it out and cleaned all brass contacts. It still doesn't work. I think the diode inside must be shot. I seem to recall somewhere on this forum somebody mentioning that they had 1ohm resistors in them. Would a five ohm cap be o.k. to use? JH.
