One side tends to stop firing

I've had my friend time the points to fire correctly. But after riding perfectly for about 10 minutes, the left side dies. I would pull off to the side of the road and turn it off and let it sit and it fires back up. This then happens every once in a while. A little break will allow it to fire up again. The spark plug seems fine. Any ideas?

Next time it happens OPEN THE GAS CAP as you ride. ..............lm

The caps go bad and don't allow air to replace the used gas which causes a vacuum in the tank so as it happens and you continue to ride and open the cap air will enter the tank and allow the gas to flow through the gas line and fill the carburetor bowl and then the air passing over the main jet will have gas in the bowl which will now be sucked into the intake and as the intake valve opens the gas will enter the combustion chamber and when the spark plug fires as it should that cylinder will come back on line and run as it should. THE CURE? Get a new issue cap or do as I did back in 1962/1966 just loosen the cap enough for air to enter under it and gas can/will continue to flow through the gas line to that carb and your problem will go away. .........lm

That's where I thought you were going, but it was only the left side that dies. Is this on of the "dominate" things that I've heard of?

For some strange reason the left side is always the problem carb. Please just try the recommendation and let us know what you have happen as you ride the bike and this happens again if it does. .......lm
