Ohio Cycle has aftermarket coils for 305's. I talked to Nick and confirmed the outside diameter of his coils are the same as OEM coils....They're $25.00 each.
I heard, Maybe here in an older thread, that the JC Whitney coils were slightly larger on the OD making it difficult to fit into the OEM bracket(s). (Not comfirmed)
As for wires, I bought mine at www.oldbikebarn.com

The plug wires are PUSHED into the coil but you need to be sure the rubber ring that the aluminum cap pushes into the coil is pulled back enough for the wire to slid over the pin in the coil. The wire at the cap must be pushed into the cap and then you turn the cap clockwise so it will thread onto the pin in the coil. ...........lm

I'm headed over to Milwaukee Cycle tonight as a last resort before I go with a new coil and wires. The cool thing about the place is the basement is probably about 5000 sq ft. packed full of parts pulled from old bikes, and they literally have whole aisles organized by part. They have whole aisles full of bins of starters, petcocks, throttles, carbs, fenders, seats, you name it. They also have another 30,000 indoor square feet of intact bikes that you can wander around and pull parts from yourself (bring tools!)
Unfortunately, the people who run the place are assholes, but you just have to ignore that...
I'm gonna bring my volt/ohmmeter to test any potential coil I find -- I should be looking for a 12v one with no resistance, right?
