Anyone care to give me a run down of the choke. Where is it and how does the owner's manual say to use it for a cold start?

I just got my Dream so thanks for the info on key positions and starting. Is it safe to assume that the procedure is the same for kickstarting, i.e. instead of using the starter you can kickstart to prime the engine and then change the key position to fire it up with the kickstart? Or is there yet a different procedure? My starter works fine but I prefer not to use it and I've never owned a kickstart bike. Thanks.
