advance unit springsIgnition mechanical and electronicDear All, This neoprene issue got me curious and Good on You Loudmouse I learned some more about the Early Hondas. Every cam sprocket assy.we have here (checked 8 of them) has those neoprene buffers on the bobweight pins. The thickness is approx 1.8mm. Something new everyday even for us old ones. Jerry
Re: Ignition mechanical and electronicI found them in the early 60's the hard way when I (in my ignorance) soaked that assy. in carb cleaner and found 2 black/neoprene things floating in the cleaner.
Did take a moment to find where they came from but as ya can imagine when I lifted the weights and released them I heard a CLINK which I had never heard which caused me to look at the area of another part. Ya can bet that part never sees carb cleaner now. ..........lm
If its neoprene, can we clean off the old stuff and heat-shrink some new stuff on? Neoprene heat shrink comes in various wall thicknesses and even with adhesive inside that sticks pretty good. If there was a groove in the pin it would stay stuck even better... Wouldn't want to take a chance of it coming off and plugging an oil gallery, but I guess Honda did. I'll try to determine the right dia and wall thickness to get us back near new and see if I can find some. Anybody have one without any rubber that can see if there's a groove or reduction in diameter at the base that would keep the neoprene from slipping off?
