CA77 Dream weak ignition

Post by paradiddle » Sat Feb 21, 2009 5:58 pm

I have 160+ psi motor. I rebuilt carb and using remote fuel bag.

Points are set correctly and static timings is good. Points look good

I've been thru 2 sets of D8HA plugs. tested spark - weak and sporatic with plug to head.
I tested caps ok. I even bypassed them. I got a minor zap when testing.

Plugs are always wet when I pull out. I had it running once but only one cylinder and weak.

I'm thinking of a coil change. In all my years I rarely have seen coil failiure. I saw that ebay coil from classic cycle - anyone used that?

It had a set of Superhawk condensors - for dual point

I swapped one of the condensors and made sure ground was good and it fired right up !!!!

160 PSI? that sounds like a lot , how did you check that?

testing the spark with the plug out against the head doesn't always give you accurate results. i have had problems with new NGKs and always test them under pressure with my AC plug tester/cleaner before installing.

this is a new NGK DH8A firing great at a little over 110 PSI , the spark went out at 120 PSI
