Currently I have NO filter. It was old and, and when I was inspecting it, it litterally started falling apart. I have a K & N on order. Plug I am using is D8HA ( I know I should have the 6, but thats all I can get right now on this rock). I put new plugs in and went through them real quick. Now I am thinking that my needle is not seating correctly?

I'd say 8s are too cold. 6s are hotter (the lower the number, the hotter the plug's temp characteristics) and will afford a more complete combustion. Try the D6HA before sodding around with the carb's settings! I'd lay money on that being the basis of your problem. Get them mail order http://www.powersportsuperstore.com/NGK ... 8-0078.htm or http://www.olypen.com/retro/ , who are quick and super-helpful.

Don't run wthout an ar filter for too long; you risk long-term carb & internal motor damage.

G'luck!

Got the correct D6HA plugs. Got the carb rebuild kit and installed the retaining clip for the needle. Took a test drive around the neighborhood-came back and checked the plugs. I was delighted to see that they were the "sandy" color. With a tad more confidence, I went on a longer cruise. Over Diamond Head and stopped at the lookout. It was a gorgeous afternoon and there were some whales breaching. Im not hanging the "mission accomplished" banner yet. But I am very grateful for this website and all the helpful folks and info. It is a good feeling to implement something you learn, and it have it actually work. I think im on the right track, and most of all having fun!
