Re: Voltage to ignition
The whole electrical system is a nominal 12V system. However, a fully charged lead-acid cell has a nominal voltage of 2.1V so measuring the voltage on a new fully charged battery will show 6x2.1=12.6V. The charging system should push this up to about 14V in order to keep the battery charged although the CB/CL/C/CA/72/77 systems struggle to do this.
Why do you ask?

Re: Voltage to ignition
The bike I'm working on had the handle bar wires cut...I had to replace the controls with aftermarket ones....there is a black wire with a red strip forward that shows around 8 volts..the other hot ones are 12 volts. ..I didn't know if that wire was going through a resistor for the points......
