Chrome gas tank on a CL77?

Hello all,

First time poster, brief time lurker.

I've recently acquired a 1966 (that's on the title) CL77 (from frame and engine number) and some of the parts on it are a conundrum - yes, several parts are missing.

I can understand the CB downward header pipes are not correct but what has me flummoxed at the moment (a fairly steady state in my life) is the chrome gas tank. Shaped like other CL's of the period, filler cap toward the right side. My understanding is most came with painted gas tanks.

Was there a year, or model or particularly moment when chrome gas tanks appears on the Scrambler?

Welcome to the Forum. To my knowledge there was never a stock chrome plated tank on the CL. There was nothing to stop an owner getting his tank plated, though.

An alternative was a 'race-kit' aluminum tank wirh a Monza-style flip up filler cap. They're pretty rare....

No, no Monza style fuel filler (would not life be complete with a set of those?), merely the usual "1/2 turn," cap.

Yet, given some of the cobbled pieces on this particular motorcycle, and the length of time since manufacturer, there's all sorts of unusual things that could have happened to it.
