Simple question: How do I know the RPMs of my bike

Post by paperslammer » Mon Jun 21, 2010 7:19 pm

How can you tell what the RPMs are of a bike? Do you just know by listening? Ed's Special Tuning says to go until you get to 800 RPM, but how do I know when this is?
Thanks for any help.

He has a CA77, only a speedometer. I too was wondering how you tell what the revs are at without a tach. Do you just guesstimate and develope an ear?

I use one of these:
You can also find universal ones that mount permanently to the handlebar.

Ya will find a RPM at which the engine will idle smoothly and sound the same. (smooth)
Not to fast and not to slow.
That is usually around the 800/900 RPM range. .............lm
