Centre Stands

I have two centre stands for my bike, the better of the two I had powder coated in black, however when it's on and the bikes on it the rear wheel isn't quite off the ground. Comparing the two the fitted one has nice neat centre stand "feet", the other one has thicker feet which boosts the height quite a bit. Which one is original? It looks like somebody has welded the thicker feet on, but checking the CB77 in this months Classic Mechanics it looks the same as the one in there.

The bike seems fairly stable on the stand, just a bit worried if I have to use it and it's not a completely flat surface.

Yes, well within a few mm. I'm trying to find out why I have two identical centre stands apart from the feet and which one I should be using. Judging by pics in a recent classic bilke mag I should be using the stand with the thicker feet (2 layers of metal)

Make sure that the front tire is also the correct size, and that the fork tubes are all the way up (and fully seated) in the top fork tree. Severely worn centerstand bolt holes in the frame can be an issue. Phil Denton Engr. offers oversize pivot bolts. Welding a doubler to the bottom of the stock feet will prevent wearing through the stock foot material, but I've never seen it "factory" installed. I've used 1/8" thick 4130 chromemoly sheet with good results. The standard shock center-to center length is 310mm (12.21"). Generally, if all is right, the rear tire should be about 1/2" off the ground when parked on a flat surface. Regards, Chase

Hagons are 310mm centre to centre, front tyre is a 3.25 x 18 which I suspect may be the problem. You've answered my question on the feet though, so I'll see how I get on with the standard stand, if I have problems I can alwsys powdercoat the second one and use that.
