Correct year of manufacture
Hi,
I have long been curious of the correct year of manufacture of my CB77. Titled as a 68', however I am not convinced that this is correct as I have often heard that the bikes were titled as the year sold, not made. I believe the bike to be correct, however it has 2 piece pipes and a flat seat which I believe are from earlier year models. Serial # CB7710334XX. Any ideas? Help is always appreciated.
Ohio Pat

Its probably a '66 judging by the number. Does it have alloy or steel lower fork legs?
georGe
George,
Hi, My bike has alloy fork lowers. Are there any other parts or details that I should look for when judging model year? Ie. Speedo - I have the newer style with same direction needles. Model year printed on wiring harness tag (how accurtate is that anyhow?)?
Pat

According to Bill Silver's notes: "...CB-77's w/ Type 2 alloy front forks began @ CB-77-1030130 and seem to be the mid 1966 models..." As for other indications of year ya have to look at the overall bike and then put together what parts ya have. Over time parts that went bad could have been changed out w/ parts from different year bikes
You should pick up Silver's books in the marketplace section of this site, they are a wealth of info about these bikes.

georGe
Re: Correct year of manufacture
Do you suppose that there is a way to varify the date of this bike so as to have the title changed in Ohio? ie official date of manufacture documentation? Reason is that I am currently running a generic vintage license plate and in Ohio am able to purchase a year correct plate and register it as my legal plate. Too bad I already have a perfect 1968 plate, guess I may need to get another bike for that plate.
