I have a '66 CB77 and I've been trying to fix the speedometer but just realized today that the cable spins counter-clockwise but the speedometer only registers when the cable is spinning clockwise (I hooked a piece of old speedometer cable into a powerdrill and spun the speedo). Does this mean I have the wrong speedometer on the bike? I know they have two different designs where the old design's pin's move in opposite directions rather than the same direction. Is there any way around buying a whole new speedometer? Is there a different speedo cable drive I can get?
Thanks!
Mark

There are drives to match the speedo's. A 66 should probably have the later style gauge, both needles CW. I'm sure you can find someone willing to trade you drives... Maybe someone can post pictures of the two speedo drives side by side.

Wrong speedometer drive
Thanks for the help! Can anyone tell me how I can identify the difference between the different types of speedometer drives?

Re: Wrong speedometer drive
Put a screwdriver in the area for the cable and turn it.
Identify which way the part which fits into the hub turns and get the one that turns the other direction. ......lm
