If you have a Lowes check out over in their gutter section. My Lowes cells this stuff for about $45 bucks I believe in a long roll. I would think Home Depot would probably sell it as well.... (Note: It's used to curb moss from growing on the roof. As rain leaches from the zinc, it "pisses of the moss" and it heads east....

However, how was I to know Communist Calif would make it so difficult for me to get Zinc. I will be in NorCal this weekend maybe they will have some MossBoss or something otherwise off to Ebay. In my readings I have read that temperature is a factor with plating, but I didn't see it mentioned in this forum. Did I miss something or have any of you dabbled with temperature?

Zinc anodes can be found in the swamp cooler section of Home Depot. They are used to reduce rust in the cooler sump. I found a large one for about $8 recently.
Another choice is
http://www.rotometals.com/product-p/zinccastrods.htm Their 7/8ths inch cast zinc rods are just $6 per foot.

Thanks guys I tried both Lowes and the Depot and nothing, but I am in SoCal and we have funky rules to save the world, and it never rains thus no moss, and swap coolers are pretty much not, I will try when I am in wonderful Plumas Co, NO CAL where rain and moss are abundant. Home Depot had it online, however, Calif loves to protect us from ourselves it is a wonderful thing.

Thanks all, and Davo no Ca doesn't sell Zinc. While up in Plumas Co this weekend they looked at me like I was nuts the Marina guy said they weren't able to Zinc anymore either. So I guess Ebay is the place to go, or heck I guess I can try Home Depo online. No response on the temperature I guess nobody has dabbled with that? I can't wait to give this plating thing a try. $50 bucks for the BossMoss is the cost of Superior's spokes, but I guess I have to look at all the things I can plate for that $50.

I do all my plating at room temperature--seems to work just fine.

OK guys got my plating setup and have done a few brackets and some linkage pieces. However, it comes out darkgrey and furry. Takes a little cleaning with a brass brush, steelwool, or the green scotch bite pad and looks good. But why is it black and should it be?
On another note I dropped off a rim at the chrome shop and talked with a chopper guy and he has convinced me to go with stainless steel spokes. I went and checked them out and they sure look good and the fit was very good as well. I have been very happy with them in bicycles and the fact that there isn't much up keep on them makes them worth the $125. Sorry I bailed out on you my home plating homies, but Stainless Steel will still look good after I have checked out.
