Starter Clutch question.......

Question: trying to put the starter motor sprocket back on.....can't keep the shaft out to place c clip on the shaft. As i push the gear on the shaft it goes into the case. Any suggestions.

Tom has some new springs on there way to me.....will see if this quits things down.

If you are going through the hassle of replacing the starter clutch springs, you should sure as hell spend the other $10-15 and replace the rollers and cups while you're in there, especially since you can buy them from your local HONDA dealer. Just my two cents.

RZ...my local Honda joint isn't that great on older stuff. Will be putting in a call to them tomorrow to see what they can come up with..

Really? Hmm. My dealer just inputs the part number I give 'em, tells me if it's still a valid #, then orders it. Voila', parts arrive.

here's a quote from shop manual in early Japonenglish:

"If required for any reason to take out the starting chain, do not disassemble the starting sprocket from the motor. By any chance if the starting sprocket were taken out it is necessary to disassemble even the planetary gear and the starting sprocket should be combined before reassemble the starting motor. If the sprocket were set in without disassembling the starting motor by mistake there happens rotation impossible due to hitting against the case by the primary gear."

I think that means you gotta take it a little further apart...good luck, Lee

What the hell does that even mean? It almost seems to say to combine the starter sprocket and the starter clutch before installing on the engine, but how can you get the sprocket seal over the keyway without damaging it?
