Good morning,
Does any one know if there are rebuild kits for starters or someone who rebuilds them? Mine is a locked up brick right now.
Electrical Starter Rebuild?
Don't know of any rebuild kits. I've rebuilt a couple over the years because I like to rebuild stuff, but if I was smarter, I would just buy one of the 25 of them for sale on ebay for $50.

Why not take yours apart and see why its locked up. Just a few screws to split the gearbox. Probably a broken gear that someone could just send you and you would be back in business. Once you take the gears out, see if the motor itself spins with 12V. If not, then ebay...

do I need to pull the starter to check it, or just cover(s) on rotor and/or clutch side to see what's going on? Problem seems to be 0 resistance from starter terminal to ground, seems to me there should be a few ohms resistance through the starter motor. So I guess I need to be looking at wiring on the right (rotor) side.
Thanks, Lee
