clutch adjuster

Post by dlobby12 » Tue May 08, 2012 8:58 pm

what position should the adjuster plate be before you turn it. when I have it at 3:00 I can't get the case back on until I move it to 12:00. the bike is a ca77 by the way.
i did replace the thread adjuster, maybe it's not installed correctly, it seems like it can only go on one way.

Are you talking about the big flat-blade screw on the outside of the kickstart cover that adjusts the clutch?

12:00 is OK.
Screw the adjusters in all the way.
Now turn it clockwise to stop.
Turn back 1/8 inch and tighten.
Do any fine tuning with the cable ends. .........lm

I had trouble with this the first time too. In my experience, the the push rod had come out of its seat inside the engine and was caught on something. Make sure the push rod is seated properly and isn't held up on the lip of it's seat inside the engine, you can pull it out a little and push it back in until it seems seated properly, then do the steps that LOUD MOUSE recommended. If it's an old enigne that hasn't been rebuilt, it might be worth pulling the push rod all the way out (fyi oil will spill out) to inspect if it is being ground in a particular spot or worn in any way.
