Clutch Adjuster sheared

Post by Tini1964 » Mon Jul 20, 2020 6:46 am

After a 50 mile ride on my 1964 CB77 the clutch suddenly started to drag even with the clutch lever pulled right back to the grip.
Fortunately I was just turning into my driveway. 😀
On investigation I found that the clutch adjuster in the right hand engine casing had sheared all round it’s circumference allowing the actuator to push away instead of pushing the clutch push rod.
Has anyone else had this problem?
The part, (22841-266-000), is available from David Silver for around £24. Ordered and I’m just waiting delivery, but I would like the know the root cause.
Is this a common problem, or was I just unfortunate?

This part is quite highly stressed and made from a crap aluminium alloy so your failure certainly isn't unique.

It's possible (easy) to assemble the adjuster 180 degrees from where it should be in which case the grease doesn't get through properly when you grease the nipple and this wouldn't have helped.

The adjuster wears badly inside anyway so with a new one fitted you'll probably find your clutch action is smoother that it was before in hich case its £25 well spent.
