The stop has a blind end and sits way too far outside. What is up here? Is the old cover much different? Do I get out the grinder?

I bought the wrong kick cover and the old clutch stop would not fit so I got one on ebay that is supposedly correct. I think not...
The stop has a blind end and sits way too far outside. What is up here? Is the old cover much different? Do I get out the grinder?
