Removing Alternator from CB77

Post by Jim G » Mon Nov 08, 2010 6:14 am

The tool you need to remove the alternator is a part number 82-0100 and can be obtained via Amazon.com from KB Tools. Here is the link. http://www.amazon.com/K-N-82-0100-Puller/dp/B000FGE802

It looks like a big bolt. After you've removed the alternators bolt, screw it in and use an electric or air impact wrench to pull the alternator off. Comes off is seconds.

puller

The link shown shows as unavailable. Another option is a chain breaker tool from Harbor Freight. The large bolt, part of the tool, works as a rotor puller also. Two tools in one. Now, I'm sure some here are opposed to buying cheap foreign crap from them but you are hard pressed to find much that isn't brought from overseas these days. Rusty

alternator removal

You can use a 16mm bolt with a 1.5 mm. thread pitch (might be hard to find) Should be about 2" or so long. There is no bolt on a CB 77 with this diameter/pitch, so the axle bolts, or any others will not work. A fastener supplier is your best bet on this one.

Hi,

The front axle bolt of a dream will work, but not everybody has it lying around.

I have a couple of new quality bolts that size if anyone needs one. $5.00 plus postage.
