New clutch cable too short

Post by Loudo » Fri Dec 19, 2008 12:35 pm

Okay, so I bought a new clutch cable for my '63 CB77 low-bar from an eBay retailer. The sheath length for this cable (KSI brand) is about 3" shorter than the cable on the bike which appears original. This difference appears great enough that at left turn full lock the cable would be too short to work. The part I bought is 22870-268-010, and I realize now the correct part number for this bike would be -000. The puzzling part to me is that the part I bought is for the later years of bikes. I would think that for the later bikes, the part number changed because they went to the high bar. This would make the necessary cable longer, not shorter. I was hoping someone could answer this question: under what condition would a clutch cable need to be even shorter than that which fits a '63 CB77 low-bar bike?

The cable I bought has a sheath length of 29" and overall length of 34-1/2". Serial number for the bike is 303xxx.

shot in the dark here, but possibly for cafe builds with clubman type bars? i doubt that's the correct answer for a number of reasons, but all i can really logically come up with.
