hey all, i just bought bill silvers books and here are the new updates that he wrote about this topic.

"In a quick re-reading of the Engine Guide, I would like to retract my comment,
listed on page 40, concerning part of the clutch installation. The statement about the
small, fine, clutch plate retainer wires “breaking” was something that was told to me by
an old-time Honda service representative. Surely, it probably happened once or a few
times, but the likelihood of this occurring on a regular basis is very small. What I have
discovered, through experience, is that when the wires are left out, the clutch pack tends
to stick together when you pull the clutch lever. This causes a less than ideal release of
the clutch from the transmission (known as “clutch drag”), which then makes finding
neutral at a stop quite a chore. If you don’t select neutral as you are rolling to a stop, then
you probably won’t be able to select it when you have come to rest, with the engine
running.
BOTTOM LINE: If you can save the clutch wires by carefully removing them and
putting them back in place, the clutch will release much better, than if you leave them
out."
