1966 CB77 Shifting Problem

Post by nightwolf0215 » Tue Jun 07, 2016 12:27 am

I have a 1966 CB77 with transmission rebuilt by Charlie's Place. It's been going ok, but recently has been doing some strange stuff...

Some time, while slowing down and shifting down from 3rd or 4th. The shift lever would get stuck. If I try to press down on the shift lever, it's rock hard. I'd have to pull it up to return to the gear I was in, and roll the bike a little before it would allow me to shift down. Sometimes, no matter what I do, the bike would be stuck in 3rd or 4th gear for awhile before it can be shift down. This happens randomly at stop lights and is very disconcerting. I am planning on taking the bike on a trip, and is not feeling very confident with the state of the transmission. Can anyone offer me some advice?

Mine does that sometimes. Not bad enough to warrant pulling it apart yet. It is a very high mileage bike (70,000) so I suppose wear is playing a part. I'm keen to see if anyone has a definitive answer so I can be confident in finding the problem.
